The Karachi.AI quarterly summit took place on 01st February 2020 at Dr. J. Fraser Auditorium, Aga Khan University, and Karachi in collaboration with Public Health stream of School of Nursing & Midwifery. One of the biggest dent into Digital healthcare space, brought together Doctors, Medical Students and AI Technologists along with experience industry speakers. The event was sponsored by Diya Interactive and knowledge partnered with Sehat Kahani, Ephlux, and Open Karachi was announced as outreach partner.
Ninth in the series and start-off for 2020, the event was initiated with the founder’s keynote to the audience about organization and its vision, and the importance of learning Artificial Intelligence. Under his excellence audience learned about the budding importance of Artificial intelligence and cross domain innovation to put Pakistan in the winning lines. Mr. Mesum Raza Hemani also introduced audience with the event theme and schedule.
Followed by the finest speakers amongst Digital Health care professionals and Co-Founder Sehat Kahani, Ms. Iffat Zafar Aga took the charge to introduce audience with the concept of M-Health and Telemedicine. Her unique insights enabled audience to learn about her contribution and the applications of AI in tele medicine domain.
As the audience were doomed with the applications of AI in Health Care, it was the best time to learn what AI is. For this Dr. Muhammad Ali Shoaib, came forward to introduce 101 for AI in the Medical lingua. His professional mix of being applied statistician and practicing healthcare enabled audience to quickly relate how Artificial Intelligence functions and what are the key concepts into it.
In continuation to Dr. Shoaib, The program theme took a new level to introduce various applications of AI in health care domain. This time Dr. Kamran Iqbal (Consultant World Bank) joined the stage to enlighten the audience about how AI and Machine Learning techniques are disrupting the way medicines are discovered. They key insight from his valuable talk was around the new culture of Algorithm and App approval from FDA and how AI has enabled fast track drug discovery and repurpose of medicine to cure various diseases.
As the event proceeded it was the right time to introduce how Hospitals and Public Health sector is being disrupted with AI. Dr. Zahra Hoodboy (Associate Professor) from Aga Khan University presented the case studies for how in general machine learning is changing the way and duration of diagnosis. She discussed how AKU is preparing to enhanced quality of service, patient satisfaction and enabling digital driven solution to make quality health care accessible for all. The event observed a souvenir distribution by Mr. Hussain Maqbool from department of nursing and midwifery followed by short break for prayers and energizing where participant engaged in networking session.
As audience joined back to the seats Mr. Zia Saleem (Integration Xperts - a renowned cloud and data services provider) joined the stage. His topic established the understanding of audience around computer vision with AI and how it is changing the medical imaging field including giving a tough time to radiologists and medical report examiners. The key insight included a message for doctors to gear-up with the usage of AI in their operations and start learning the fundamentals since their job roles are quickly changing as a result of Machine leaning powered radiology with high accuracy.
Following Mr. Zia’s excellent outlook of AI, Mr. Saad Khawar from Dawaai.PK joined the rostrum. Dawaai is a renowned startup that is providing authentic and accessible medicine with transparent discounts. Mr. Saad introduced the audience how his organization is using machine learning to optimize inventory management, Drug prescription recognition, Drug co-occurrence and identifying and predicting diseases progression.
As the event came to its closing time the theme of challenge to implement AI was introduced. Mr. Saad Ahmed from Ephlux introduced the aspect of explain-ability and its importance with the audience. Mr Saad stressed on correct implementation of algorithm from AI in health care and how they can be evaluated. The ethical implication of AI are very deepening and any bias introduced shall be dangerous in mass scaled AI enabled health care solutions.
The final talk was presented by Dr. Omair Mehboob from Shirazi Trading around the importance of data around AI. Since all the magic of this revolutions is based on huge volume of genomic, EMR/EHR, Nerval, dna and scanning data and signals, Mr. Omair strategized how organizations shall prepare to invest into data warehousing and streaming systems to keep the information asset organized and ready for self service business analytics and artificial intelligence implementations.
It was an honor to have Dr. Farhan Essa (CEO Essa Labs & President Open Karachi) as guest of honor at the event. He delivered his closing remarks and appreciated Karachi.AI’s effort of having this wonderful event and gathering with staggering houseful count of 150+ participants. He appreciated the speakers with presenting souvenirs. Later Dr. Farhan was presented with a Shield of honor for his valuable presence.
